Dear Mandel JDS Families,

Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.

(2:30 pm close on Friday)

HOW CAN MY CHILD PURCHASE BOOKS? There are two ways!

•  Create a login if you don't have one already using the link above and set up a Book Fair eWallet. This digital payment account allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. You can share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds. Funds that aren't used will remain in your account.
• In addition to the E-wallet, we will also accept cash and credit cards. Cash should be sent in a labeled ziploc bag, especially for younger kids. Plese take note - there is tax charged on the books, so please make sure you send in a little extra if you have an exact total of books you want your child to purchase. ($10.00 is not enough for a book that is $9.99)
• We usually suggest that kids use their money to buy at least one book in addition to all of the other "stuff" that's available. If you have strong feelings about your kids purchasing only books, please let your teacher know.

HOW CAN I PURCHASE BOOKS FOR MY CHILD'S CLASSROOM?

• In a few weeks your child’s teacher will email you with his/her specific Class E-Wallet to donate money if you choose and your teacher can purchase books for the class.
• If you'd prefer to buy a book in person, you can check out the Teacher Wishlists at the fair. You can purchase a book of their choice and even include a paper name plate to put inside. We will deliver the books for you or you are more than welcome to have your child deliver them.
• You can purchase a paper gift certificate at the Book Fair to give to your teacher. They will be able to choose and purchase a book at the fair.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY CHILD WILL VISIT THE BOOK FAIR?

• Most classes will go during their scheduled Library Time or Advisory Time. Kindergarten and First Grade will have two scheduled times during the week to visit the Fair. First- to look at books and make a list of what they want to take home and show their parents, and Second- to come back and purchase books. More info on this to come closer to the fair.
• Preschool families are welcome to come before and/or after drop off and pickup. We will also be offering a Sunday morning program on 11/9/25 that will include early shopping at the Book Fair. More info to come soon.
• Be on the lookout for another email with Class Book Fair Visits listed. We will also have a Sign-Up Genius in the next few weeks to volunteer during the Fair! There will be opportunities to help when your child goes to the book fair, other times during the week to help with restocking and reordering, and also during setup (Friday morning, 11/7) and break down (Friday, 11/14).

EARLY CHILDHOOD STUDENTS CAN VISIT THE BOOK FAIR AT OUR SUNDAY FUNDAY NOVEMBER 9!

Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
