5th Grade Band Night

What
5th Grade Band Night
When
8/17/2026, 6:00 PM

Learning to play a musical instrument engages academic, emotional, and physical skills in profound ways that few other disciplines can match. Recognizing the many benefits that learning an instrument provides for a child’s brain development, 5th Grade Music at Mandel JDS is a beginning Band class. All students will select a marching band instrument—flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or percussion—and will learn to play their instrument during their weekly Music class.

To help ensure a successful start to the school year, it is important that all Band students have an instrument available to play at school and practice at home as early as possible. To help families with this process, we will hold an Instrument Trial and Band Information Night on Monday, August 17, in the Miller Family Auditorium.

Students and parents are welcome to stop by anytime between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. to try the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.

Beginning at 7:00 p.m., there will be a brief presentation about the Band program at Mandel JDS. A representative from Music & Arts will also explain the instrument rental process and contracts. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions and, if they are ready, rent an instrument that evening.

We look forward to helping our 5th graders discover the joy of making music and beginning their musical journey at Mandel JDS!
